Fermentation Scientist
Qualifications:
Scientist candidates must have at least a Ph.D. in Microbiology or Biochemical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a postdoctoral or industry setting, industry experience preferred. Must have experience with laboratory-scale batch and fed-batch yeast fermentation, development and optimization. An in-depth understanding of microbial physiology and metabolic pathway utilization is required. Experience with continuous fermentation, and downstream processing of fermentation broth is highly desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be essential to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary research team.
Responsibilities:
- Design and conduct laboratory-scale fermentation experiments to evaluate recombinant microbial expression of metabolic intermediates, fuels and chemicals.
- Employ statistical experimental design and analyses to understand and optimize laboratory-scale fermentations.
- Model fermentation and downstream processes for economic analyses.
- Regularly report research progress to Director and work closely with project teams.
- Maintain fermentation equipment and a safe and orderly laboratory to ensure compliance with all safety policies and practices.

Process Development Engineer
Develops methods for the production, purification, fermentation and testing of new process formulas, technologies and products. Involved in new product scale-up, purification, process optimization, technology transfer and process validation activities. Develops production procedures and product specifications. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories and contributes to scientific literature and conferences. Uses professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways. May participate in the development of patent applications. Serves as in-house and outside consultant. May act as advisor to senior management and assist with the professional development and efforts of the process development group. Uses professional concepts and company's policies and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways.
Qualifications:
Requires a PhD in chemical engineering, and a minimum of 2-8 years related experience; may include post doctoral experience. Expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts. Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought. Works on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Normally receives no instructions on routine work, general instructions on new assignments.

Research Associate / Senior Research Associate, Renewable Chemicals

Qualifications:
Knowledge and Abilities: Requires proficiency with current microbiology and molecular biology techniques and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary research team. Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure Requires a B.S. degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry or related field and preferred 2-8 years related experience in gene cloning, gene expression and phenotypic characterization of engineered microorganisms or a M.S. Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry or related field.
